“Don’t fall in love too soon…” is what I keep telling myself when I’m working on a painting. I’ve learned that we artists should only “marry” the painting when it’s really done and until then, during the process, we should only date it. Sounds funny or weird but it’s the truth because if we fall in love too soon, we kill our creativity right in the beginning, since we won’t be open to go further and deeper in the process.I’ve been working hard on understanding my process and trying to find my way in art and this exhibit talks about that. Each painting is a part of this journey that will go on because that’s the good part of being an artist, we are constantly learning and pushing ourselves to move forward. This body of work includes acrylic, oil, pencil, cold wax, wax pastel, ink (shellac), on paper, linen canvas and wood panel. Hope you can enjoy this journey as much as I do!

‘FLARE-UP’
Galeria Azur Berlin - (8-10-22)
This year I decided to take a bigger step by agreeing to take part in an exhibition in Berlin. It’s a bold decision for me but a necessary one. I’ll be presenting 3 paintings in the physical exhibit and a total of 10 paintings on the virtual exhibit. This body of work is from different series, but they all have a common thread which is the importance of color in my work. Of course, other elements are important, like design, texture, value/contrast…but the outburst of my feelings and emotions is always manifested through color.
Here is a description of the exhibition concept, by the Director of the Curation Team of Galeria Azur:
“In a journey through the most recent production of contemporary artists, we can certainly establish a “flare-up” of color, where the concept and material dialogue generate tension and delight. The new curatorial proposal of Galeria Azur Berlin manages to integrate a plurality of registers where fiction and information are manifested uniquely.
Continuities and ruptures move along these works forming solid and ethereal structures. The selection of works shows qualities of color, interest in gradations, timbral notes of tonal saturation, and nuances where transparency and reflection play a fundamental role.
Color expands with a great deal of sensuality, random or controlled, but consistently hypnotic.
Artists resort to different methods, techniques, and matter treatment to move along the diverse states of color. From the liquid to the solid, the effects of painting - such as investigative element - are glimpsed between transparencies, wear or matter resistance rather tactile or visual. The constant investigation of the matter, which in this exhibition shows as a "flare-up", emerges in these works as a back-and-forth game that invites rationalized decoding or carefree contemplation. June/2022 – Broadway Plaza Digital Exhibition
NYC, USA - Artist Talk Magazine
On June 2022 I had the pleasure to showcase one of my paintings on a Digital Exhibition at Broadway Plaza/Times Square, organized by Artist Talk Magazine.
This was a big challenge and a victory.
“Sonnet to Flowers” was the work I decided to showcase. It represents my most inner feelings for the surrounding nature where I live. On my walks I’m confronted with its beauty, and it has been the theme for a big part of my work because it inspires and ignites my art through color, texture, design and value.
Looking closer to nature is daily practice, where I pay attention and look closer to all details, taking hundreds of mental pictures, that then I reproduce in my paintings. In this painting I used a mix media technique with graphite, acrylic and finishing it with oil, on paper.
I wanted the viewer to feel the power of nature, like an outburst of emotions.

MM22 | Cascais.
Projecto mm22 is a colaboration between two emerging artists and good friends - a photographer and a painter- willing to go outside of their confort zone.
It started with a photo printed on canvas by Miguel Pisco (aka Carmo.mp) and afterwards painted by Maria Lopes.
From this sinergy several works have already emerged in the shape of "Dípticos" (diptychs) composed by the @carmo.mp's original photo and the one over which Maria Lopes has painted.
